Pierre Affair: Tyson Anderson Photography

Tyson Anderson is a self taught photographer in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Although he is available for shooting across Canada. He has a large list of clientele, part of which includes APTN where he covered the event 'Aboriginal Day Live Fesitval' (2010). I cannot get enough of Tyson's amazing features. His portraits of young beautiful Indigenous models are nothing short of inspirational. His use of skill and technique to capture ourstanding images is great. If I could describe his work in one word it might be refreshing. I caught up with Tyson to ask a few questions about his work and life...

Len: In your words, what makes great photography?

Tyson: In terms of fashion & portraiture photography I find that it's a plus for individuals who are visual artists. Majority of the time I visualize a general concept for the model, hair & makeup, outfit, and location prior to a shoot, of course in most cases it's a collaborative effort in the end which makes it great. Team work makes the dream work!

Len: Who has been a great influence in your life?

Tyson: I can't necessarily say that i've been greatly influenced by one person alone. I've been an artist all of my life, I transitioned from sketching, graphic design, video production, to photography. I consider photography to be one of many of my creative outlets. I can say that i've been inspired by many people, including mainstream artists from both the past and the ones relevant today.

Len: What are some of the songs most played on your iPod?
Tyson: My playlist has a little bit of everything. A lot of my art is influenced by music, there are some songs I listen to just for the purpose of visualizing a scene for video or a moment caputured with my camera. For personal enjoyment I find most comfort in R&B & Hip Hop from the 90's / early 2000's era. When I was thirteen I went out and bought all of the albums from Notorious B.I.G.!

Len: What can one expect when shooting/working with you for the first time if they have not modeled before?
Tyson: It's not very often I choose to work with someone with no prior experience unless I see great potential. I've been told I make my subjects feel comfortable in front of the camera. You can expect me to expect you to be confident and willing to put in effort! I think people sometimes give me all the credit when in most cases it's also the model pulling their weight to make the photograph. I base my working attitude off the energy I feel. If i'm not met halfway then you can also expect one awkward disastrous photo session. What you feel inside shines brighter then great hair & makeup.

Len: What would you like your viewers to think about or learn through your photography?
Tyson: Tyson Anderson Photography aspires to create bold images showcasing talented models, hair & makeup artists, and clothing designers. People either hate or appreciate, I'm grateful that my work is appreciated majority of the time! I would want people to realize the artistic effort put into an image and learn
that sometimes it's more than standing there snapping pictures of pretty people.

Len: Who are some young up-and-coming Aboriginal artists you think we should watch for?
Tyson: There is a great amount of Aboriginal talent waiting to shine bright all across North America! Young artists must keep in mind that talent is nothing without hard work if you have big dreams. Personally I think Ali Fontaine will amount to the success of Taylor Swift! I know so many more who deserve the success to
go with their talents.

Ali fontaine:

?Len: Do you have a favorite quote?

Tyson: When I'm asked what my favorite quote is, it's similar to when I'm asked for my favorite movie or song, dozens race through my mind! I think one of my top 5 is: "Don't let failure get to your heart & success get to your head"

?Len: What is the greatest lesson you have learned in developing your career?
Tyson: I've learned plenty of great lessons, as a 19 year old I think life in general is still a lot of trial and error. I've learned it's extremely important to never stop learning! haha

Len: What are three things you cannot live without?

Tyson: Family & Great friendships, the sun shining, and all the tools I need to bring my creativity to life!

Thanks, Tyson!
