During her MSNBC show Sunday, Melissa Harris-Perry offered the women of Texas a creative way to protest that state's new draconian abortion law.
According to the Huffington Post, it was just a couple of weeks ago that Texas state troopers confiscated tampons, maxi-pads and other potential projectiles from all those entering the state Capitol building to watch the debate and vote on the anti-abortion bill.
A producer for Harris-Perry's show came up with the idea of fashioning tampons into earrings, and actually wearing them into the Capitol building as a visible means of protest (and as possible ?projectiles?). That producer made a set of tampon earrings and presented them to Harris-Perry.
Harris-Perry thought it was a great idea and actually donned her new jewelry on camera Sunday. She also said, "Just in case that ever happens again, ladies, you can just bring them on your earrings."

Melissa Harris-Perry is beginning to regularly get under the right wing's skin.
Not long ago, she suggested that the education of children is, or should be, a community or shared responsibility for all people within a given community. She said that children did not just belong only to their parents, but to everybody in the community as a whole.
The right-wing media mavens had a virtual meltdown and conniption fit at the same time over that one. Screams of ?socialist,? ?communist? and child kidnapper filled the right's Twitter and mediasphere to overflowing.
And so we are seeing the same type and intensity of response to Harris-Perry's needling and picking at the right's obsession with abortion.
What she did Sunday was make it plain that talking to these guys (and they are almost always men) about a woman's right to control her own body is an exercise in futility.
I have written previously that the basic bottom line reason these middle-aged white males so adamantly object to abortion has nothing to do with the fetus' imagined ?right to life.?
Rather, these men are as aware of their declining numbers in the body politic as anybody who can read the writing on the wall.
It will not be much longer before white people generally, and white men particularly, will become just another of several ?minority groups? in this nation-state. There will no longer be a numerically dominant white majority -- or any majority at all, for that matter.
And these middle-aged white guys don't like it. They don't accept it. And they are trying to do whatever they can to delay or stop that day from ever arriving.
Before that day comes, though, these men are doing as much damage as humanly possible to women's rights, civil rights, gay rights, etc. They are putting into place laws and policies which will be difficult, if not impossible, to uproot once the numbers finally do go against them.
They also realize that their soon-to-be minority status will -- initially -- only slow them down. Minority status will not stop them completely. (See the US Senate).
But, it will be a start...a good start.
