For Wharton and many other business schools, you?ll have a choice between conducting your interview far away with an alumni, or on campus with a 2nd year student.
In terms of which type of interviewer is more likely to recommend you, I?d say both are just as likely.
The difference between which type of interview you pick depends on how easily you can fit a trip to the school in your schedule and what you want to get out of the interview.
The interview isn?t just about proving your worth to the school; it?s also about learning whether the school is a good fit for you.
A 2nd year student interview will tell you more about the current student culture. The alumni interview, however, will give you a wider perspective on how an MBA from that school can help you with your career.
To me, the alumni interview was a better choice, because I?m more interested in how a Wharton MBA fits in with my overall career goals.
Aside from campus visits, an alumni interview is one of the best ways of learning whether you want to commit to a particular school.
