Most Popular Method to Use a Regular Phone for Internet Calls: Skype [Hive Five Followup]

Most Popular Method to Use a Regular Phone for Internet Calls: Skype Switching from a traditional landline to VoIP doesn't require rewiring your home or getting all new phones. Plenty of services allow you to plug a jack in the wall or an adapter into your router or cable modem and use your existing home phones as normal. Last week we asked you which service you preferred when you wanted to quit your phone company. You responded, and we took a look at the top five. Now we're back to highlight the winner.

Whether it's because you actually Skype's FREETALK adapters with your home phones or because it just has the most name recognition, Skype took the top spot with just over 28% of the votes cast. Hot on its heels with 21% of the vote was Ooma, and in third place is NetTalk, with close to 20% of the vote. Just behind NetTalk with 18% of the vote was Obihai, a favorite among commenters, and in last place came Vonage with over 12% of the votes cast?likely because of all of the options, it's the most like the phone companies you may be trying to get away from.
